Donald Keith Ruwwe

Donald Keith Ruwwe, 92, of Sullivan, MO, known affectionately to friends and family as Don, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan surrounded by his family. Born on August 31, 1931, in Beaufort, MO, to Chris and Callie (Armistead) Ruwwe, Don's journey through life was marked by dedication, kindness, and a generous spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Don's early years were spent in and around Japan, MO, where he attended local school in Sullivan graduating from Sullivan High School in 1949 and laying the foundation for a life of hard work and commitment. In 1950, at the age of 19, Don joined the United States Navy, serving his country with honor during the Korean War as a Machinist Mate 4th Class. This period of service would shape Don's character, instilling in him a sense of duty and resilience that he carried throughout his life.
After his military service, Don's heart led him to Chleo (Marsh), and the two were married in 1954. Their loving partnership was blessed with four children: Steven, Janet, Linda, and Laura. Together, they built a life filled with joy, challenges, and countless cherished memories. Later on after Chleo’s death in 2001, Don married Peggy Owens.
Professionally, Don was as steadfast as he was in his personal life. He worked several jobs, honing his skills and eventually obtaining an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker. In 1963, Don began a distinguished 38-year career with the Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, MO. There, he retired as the #1 tool maker, a testament to his expertise and dedication to his craft.
Beyond his work and family, Don found pleasure in the simple things. He was an avid outdoorsman who relished in hunting and fishing, embracing the tranquility and excitement that nature offered. Don also had a passion for yard work, taking particular pride in his tomato garden. His goal was to have ripe tomatoes by July 4th each year, a personal tradition that brought him immense satisfaction. He also loved humoring his grandkids by instigating and joking around.
Those who knew Don would describe him as the embodiment of kindness, generosity, and selflessness. His actions, whether in his professional life or in the way he nurtured his family and friendships, always spoke louder than words. Don's legacy is one of love, service, and the quiet strength that defines a life well-lived.
Don is survived by his beloved children: Steve Ruwwe and wife, Cathy of Stanton, MO, Jan Lein and husband, Kim of Iberia, MO, and Linda Schneider and husband, David of Rolla, MO; 6 grandchildren: Sonny McCance of Columbia, MO, Royce Ruwwe of Lebanon, MO, Eric Ruwwe of St. Clair, MO, Daniel Schneider of Rolla, MO, Kimberleigh Hooker of Sullivan, and Shandi Swederska and husband, Ben of St. Louis, MO; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one on the way; and other relatives.
