Donald J. “Jack” Schoonover, 87, of Marshall, MO, formerly of Sullivan, MO, died Friday, November 3, 2023, at Legendary Nursing and Rehab in Marshall.

 

Graveside service with military rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Longwood Cemetery in Longwood, MO, with Chaplain Richard DeFord officiating. Friends may call at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the graveside service. Memorials are suggested to Legendary Nursing and Rehab. Born December 13, 1935, in Pea Ridge, MO, he was the son of the late Theodore John Schoonover and Mary Elizabeth Dunakey Schoonover   He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Marcus Arthur Dunakey and Minnie Pinnell Dunakey. He  was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. On December 17, 1960, in Sullivan, he married Martha E. Davis who preceded him in death on October 7, 2010. He was a tool and die machinist for Carden Machine Shop in Sullivan. He lived in Marshall the past three years, moving from Houstonia, MO, previously living in Sullivan. He enjoyed hunting for arrowheads and gardening.

 

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Lea Bell (Joe) and Katherine Ann Sumner of Sullivan and Kimberly Mae Schlomer of rural Houstonia; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, grandparents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Doug Sumner and Robert Schlomer.
