Donald G. Mercer

Donald G. Mercer, 65 of Sullivan, MO passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at his home.

Donald Gene known as Don was born on March 4, 1958 in St. Louis County, MO to the late Chester Ray and Esther Marguerite (Swearingen) Mercer. He was united in marriage to Nancy Ray. To this union, Don was blessed with Nancy’s son William, aka, Bill. Don considered Bill as his own and loved him with all his heart.

Don was employed as a tree trimmer, and alongside his brothers for Ken’s Roofing as a roofer. He most recently worked as a factory laborer in Cuba.

Don enjoyed the outdoors, especially going to the river and fishing. He was a very loving, caring and supportive uncle to his nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own. Even though Don didn’t have natural children, he more than made up for it with his love for Bill and his nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Don is survived by two brothers, Chet Mercer and Edward Shelton; special niece, Jillian Bush; along with his beloved nieces and nephews: Jason Mercer, Justin Mercer, Julie Sanford, Cinamon Mercer-Fulp, Amanda Hancock, and Shelly Wise; sister-law, Lou Mercer of Sullivan, MO; a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Mercer; a son Bill Ray; four brothers: Arthur, Bill & Kenneth Mercer and John Shelton; one sister, Brenda Singer.

A Celebration of Life for Don will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.
