Diane Elizabeth Dillon

Diane Elizabeth Dillon, 66, of Bourbon, Missouri, a loving wife, devoted mother, adored grandmother, and cherished educator, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 17, 2024. Born on December 14, 1957, to “Elmer” Gene and Norma (Atwell) King in Sullivan, Missouri, Diane grew up in the neighboring towns of Leasburg and Bourbon, where she also completed her education. She was a proud alumna of Central Methodist University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education, later furthering her passion for learning with a master’s degree.
On February 24, 1973, Diane married the love of her life, Gary Dillon, and together they welcomed their daughter, Rebecca. Diane's dedication to her family was a beacon of love and strength, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter and cherished memories.
Diane's professional life was a reflection of her commitment to growth and education, spending nearly her entire career with the Bourbon School District. Her roles were many and varied, as she served as an assistant, paraeducator, and teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her creativity and thoughtfulness. Colleagues and students alike will remember Diane for her empathy and her ability to inspire those around her. In 2008, after years of dedication to her vocation, Diane retired, leaving behind a legacy of educational excellence.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Diane was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She fully embraced her role as a grandmother, forming an unbreakable bond with her grandchildren, Gabe and Abigail. For them, Diane was the heart of fun, always ready to explore the creek, have nerf gun wars, build Legos, and play board games. She created many special moments with her beloved grandchildren. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for fishing, scalloping, snorkeling, bicycling and hiking, with special memories forged during the much-anticipated annual trips to fish camp in Steinhatchee, Florida.
Travel was another joy for Diane, as she and Gary explored the United States in their motorhome, seeking new adventures at every turn. Her love for the written word was profound, both as an avid reader and a gifted writer. Diane authored two unpublished children's books, two songs and assisted granddaughter Abby in writing numerous short stories, sharing her imaginative spirit with those closest to her.
Diane's legacy is one of love and creativity. She was a thoughtful soul who enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her presence was a gift, and she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a great teacher whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
Diane is survived by her loving husband, Gary; her cherished daughter, Rebecca Hutchison and husband, Greg of Leasburg, MO; beloved grandchildren, Gabe Hutchison and significant other, Lauren Grissom of Leslie, MO and Abigail Hutchison of Leasburg; three brothers: Phillip King and wife, Leslie, Dan King and wife, Sheila all of Bourbon, MO, and Matt King and wife, Sherry of Leslie, MO; mother-in-law, Shirley Dillon of Bourbon; her dearly loved in-laws: Donna Thibodeau and husband, Mike, Janet Dillon all of St. Charles, MO, Jeff Dillon and wife, Debbie of Leasburg, Karen Eckhard and husband, Dave of St. Charles, and Glenn Dillon and wife, Dawn of Austin, TX; a special uncle & aunt, Ron & Karen Atwell of Mt. Dora, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer “Gene” & Norma King; a brother, James “David” King; and her father-in-law, Donald Dillon.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Mike King officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will be 12:00 PM noon to 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service at the Eaton Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given in Diane’s memory to BJC Hospice.
