Chelsea Lynn Smith

Chelsea Lynn Smith of Steelville, MO was born on Friday, November 15, 1991 in Rolla, MO to Guy Lynn Smith and Deborah Jean Smith, nee Dicus. She passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024 as the result of a tragic motor vehicle accident with her 5 year old son in Sullivan, MO, at the age of 32 years, 8 months and 26 days.
Chelsea grew up in Steelville, MO and graduated as Salutatorian from Steelville High School in the Class of 2010. She was athletic and played volleyball and softball in school. After graduation, she went to MSU (Missouri State University) in Springfield, MO to pursue a degree to become a dietician. Chelsea ended up taking on her biggest and greatest role in life, being mom to Emmett Calvin Jones, who was born on July 30, 2019 in Austin, TX. Emmett was Chelsea's whole world. She worked at Regional Eye Care in Cuba, MO and also at Bass' River Resort in Steelville, MO. She still enjoyed playing softball and recently took up playing golf. Chelsea loved country music, especially Cody Johnson. She had a welcoming and magnetic personality that lit up every room she walked into. Chelsea was funny, outgoing and cared deeply for her friends which is evident in all of the lives that she touched. Most of all, Chelsea loved spending time with friends and family. She was a loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend.
She was preceded in death by her son, Emmett Calvin Jones; grandparents Fred and Merna Smith and Poppy (and son's namesake) James "Jim" Calvin Young.
Chelsea is survived by her loving parents, Guy and Debbie Smith of Steelville, MO; sister Danielle (Ray) Scott of Springfield, IL; nieces and nephews Campbell, Nolan, Reid, Sweeney and Wren Scott; grandmother Carol Watson of Steelville, MO; aunts and uncles John (Marie) Watson, Vicky Clark (Kenny Brown), Kevin (Jeanie) Smith, Mike (Nancy) Smith and Diane Manley (Jerry Brakefield) all of Steelville, MO and Darrell (Dana) Smith of Jacksonville, FL; great aunts Alice Carpenter and Phyllis Dorf both of St. Louis, MO; special "Gi" Geneva Young of Steelville, MO; many other relatives and so many friends.
Visitation was from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial for Chelsea was at Steelville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations were suggested to the family so they can send something to Emmett's Daycare (Wise Little Owls) in his memory.
