Carol Sue Reed
Carol Sue Reed, 88, formerly of Sullivan, MO, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Wentzville, MO surrounded by her family. Born on July 22, 1936, in Sullivan, MO, to Burlie and Mildred (Sites) Norris, Carol's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her sharp wit, and her generous spirit.
Carol grew up in Sullivan, where she attended local schools and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1954. Her early years in Sullivan laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work, community involvement, and a deep love for her family. Carol's career spanned many years and various roles. She worked diligently at Belmont Furniture in St. Clair, MO, and later at St. Clair DieCast. Her work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew her.
Carol's life took a joyful turn when she met and married Carroll "Curly" Reed. Together, they welcomed three sons into the world: Timothy, Steven, and Aaron. Although Carol and Curly later divorced, Carol's commitment to her children never wavered. She relocated back to Sullivan and eventually began a fulfilling career with IBM in Chesterfield, MO. As an Administrative Assistant, Carol took pride in her work and retired in 2001 after many years of service.
In her later years, health issues prompted Carol to move to Wentzville to be closer to her son. Throughout her life, Carol remained a devoted member of the Sullivan First Assembly of God Church, where she found strength and community.
Family was the cornerstone of Carol's life. She was a fiercely loyal mother, always present at her children's sporting events and activities, a tradition she joyfully continued with her grandchildren. Carol's love for her family was matched only by her sense of humor. She was genuinely funny, with a witty humor and an infectious laugh that could light up any room.
In her younger days, Carol relished going to the river, where she enjoyed camping and fishing. As time went on, she found pleasure in traveling, whether it was to visit family or to bask in the Florida sunshine. These experiences brought her great joy and left her family with a treasure trove of memories.
Carol is survived by her sons: Timothy Reed of St. Louis, MO, Steven Reed and wife, Cindy of Jefferson City, MO, and Aaron Reed and wife, Renee of Wentzville, MO; 6 grandchildren: Zoe Reed of St. Louis, Ethan Reed of Estes Park, CO, Emily Reed & Elliott Reed both of Jefferson City, Seth Reed & Chloe Reed both of Wentzville; and numerous cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burlie & Mildred Norris.
Services will be 12:00 PM Noon, Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan with Pastor Kyle Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12 noon, Friday, August 2, 2024 prior to the service at the funeral home.
