Carol Jean Gillam,74, of Sullivan, MO passed away peacefully in Sullivan, Missouri, on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Born on May 6, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jacob and Letty (Denny) Adams, Carol's early years were spent in Tower Grove, MO before she attended schools in Cuba and Sullivan, Missouri.

Carol was the epitome of dedication and love, having married the love of her life, Junior Gillam, on November 28, 1965. Their enduring partnership was blessed with two daughters, Heather and Tamara, and together, the family created a warm and loving home in Sullivan. As a stay-at-home mom, Carol poured her heart into raising her daughters, nurturing them with the same loving intelligence and courage that would come to define her life.

Once her daughters were grown, Carol embarked on a new chapter of her professional life. She obtained her real estate license, showcasing her sharp intellect and keen eye for detail. In 1985, the entrepreneurial spirit took hold, and she opened Gillam Real Estate with her sister-in-law, Joan Gillam. The joint venture flourished under their dedicated stewardship until they decided in 1991 to retire after several years of successful operation.

Carol's involvement in her community was marked by active participation and leadership. She was an integral part of the local Girl Scouts organization, inspiring young girls to embrace their potential and pursue their dreams. Her commitment to community service extended to her membership in the local Fraternal Order of Eagles #3781, where she contributed with the same passion and enthusiasm she brought to all aspects of her life.  Sentimentally, highlighted by her and Junior’s annual commitment to deliver holiday baskets to those in need.

In retirement, Carol discovered new joys and adventures alongside her beloved Junior. The couple enjoyed traveling, and one of their most cherished trips was a tour of the Bridges of Madison County in Iowa—a testament to their shared love of exploration and making memories together. Carol was also a talented painter, often capturing the beauty of her imagination and surroundings on canvas.

Her interests did not end with travel and art; Carol was an avid reader and loved playing Bingo. She found joy and excitement in watching her favorite game shows, "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune," where her quick wit and vast knowledge often impressed those around her. Music, especially Blues, held a special place in Carol's heart.  She was in the Sullivan Community Choir and she could also frequently be found singing Karaoke, her voice a reflection of the soulful music she loved.  For years, Carol and Junior were on several bowling leagues, winning awards and trophies including multiple State Championships.

Carol is survived by her daughters:  Heather Gillam with Joe Conrad and their grandson, Kyle of Sullivan, MO and Tamara Patterson and husband, David of Rolla, MO; her grandson, Daniel Jacob West Jr. of Fenton, MO; a sister-in-law, Joan Gillam of Sullivan; niece and nephew, Cherilynn Riddle and husband, Mike and Preston Gillam all of Sullivan; cousins:  Shirley Reynolds and husband, Winton and Paul Reynolds all of Gerald, MO; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; her parents, Jacob and Letty Adams; her in-laws, Ralph Gillam and Eula Ogle (Gillam); and a brother-in-law, Sonny Gillam.
