Carl Duane Sappington passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital – Sullivan on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Carl was born in Crawford County, MO on Wednesday, January 3, 1934, to James “J.B.” and Bernice (Gallinger) Sappington. Carl was a lifelong resident of Stanton, MO and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1951. Carl joined the United States Army in January of 1952 and proudly served our country. He married the love of his life, Mary Louise McNamee, on July 4, 1959 in Pacific, MO. To this union three children were born; Myrna, Carl Jr., and Timothy.

Carl was a proud 70-year member of Operating Engineers Local 513. Throughout his career, he worked on numerous highway, bridge, and airport projects. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed planting crops, gardening, and working in the hay field with his family. Carl was mechanically inclined and could fix most anything. He loved animals and always had a trusty dog by his side. Carl very much enjoyed talking to family and friends, and anyone who joined in a conversation with him knew that a good story was sure to come.

Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Sappington of Sullivan, MO; his three children: Myrna Sappington Parker of Spring Bluff, MO, Carl Sappington, Jr. and wife Karen of Sullivan, MO, and Timothy Sappington and wife Christina of Stanton, MO; seven grandchildren: Kelsy Parker Solomon and husband Mike of Vancouver, WA, Ronald Parker II and wife Crista of Sullivan, MO, Rachel Saltzman and husband Chris of Spring Bluff, MO, Jacob Sappington and wife Charlotte of Sullivan, MO, James Sappington and wife Bria of Japan, MO, Timothy Sappington, Jr. and wife Amanda of Stanton, MO, and Jessica Nigh of Stanton, MO; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Sappington; his mother, Bernice Sappington; one brother, James Sappington; one sister, Letha McCleary; and one grandson, Joseph Parker.

Funeral Services were 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Josh Wright officiating. Services ended in cremation.

Visitation was 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home and from 9 - 10 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carl’s memory may be made to HALO, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
