Brenda Joy Setzler

Brenda J. Setzler, 80, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Brenda Joy Setzler was born July 2, 1943 to Luther and Beatrice (Seaton) Guthrie in Washington, Missouri. Brenda grew up and attended school in the Spring Bluff School District later completing her GED. Earlier in Brenda’s life she was blessed with four children: Greg, Todd, Benjamin and Staci.
A few short years later, Brenda was united in marriage to the love of her life, David Setzler on November 2, 1973. Together they continued raising their young family in Sullivan while Brenda worked at various places such as, International Shoe, Dunsford Court and Walmart Pharmacy before becoming a full time stay at home mother.
Brenda and David loved to travel coast to coast, sightseeing, visiting family and creating memories together that would last more than a lifetime. A favorite memory of theirs was being gifted a trip to Maine by their children for their 25th wedding anniversary. Here they spent time sightseeing several different lighthouses and covered bridges.
Brenda’s faith was very important to her. Together Brenda and David attended services and were active members of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan for over 35 years. Brenda was a homebody at heart and enjoyed reading mystery novels, her Bible, gardening and was a great cook. She had a witty sense of humor and always made a huge effort to get everyone together for Christmas Eve.
Above all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Brenda adored her treasured grandchildren. She will be very dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Setzler of Sullivan, Missouri; four children: Greg Lawrence and fiance, Mary Ann of Ironton, Todd Lawrence and wife Janie of Sullivan, Benjamin Lawrence of Leslie, Staci Pfeuffer of Sullivan; nine grandchildren: Josh Lawrence, Shane Lawrence and wife Jenny, Marissa Lawrence, Lora Pence and husband Ben, Seth Lawrence and Brooke Johnson, Emily Dugan and husband Stephen, Caiti Vollmer and husband Seth, Abbea and fiance Teran Racer, Zach Henke and fiance Maranda; 15 great – grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Beatrice; a daughter in law, Kim Lawrence; a brother, Greg Guthrie in infancy; and two sisters, Judi Guthrie and Kit Lahmann and husband Danny.
A Memorial Graveside will be held 10 AM, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sullivan Mission Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
