Betty Jean Byrd, 84, of Leasburg, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

Betty was born in Sullivan, MO, on October 9, 1937, to Paul and Helen (Strauser) Carey. She grew up and attended school in Sullivan. Betty married Harold Byrd and together they had three children: Kathy, Karen, and Keith. They resided in Leasburg, where they raised their family. Betty was a secretary at Bourbon High school for many years.

Betty was a very talented seamstress and made many clothes and curtains through the years. She and Harold loved gardening and traveling together, as well as watching their grandkids sporting activities. Betty was also a good cook. She enjoyed canning food, raising her flowers, and reading a good book. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family.

Betty is survived by two of her children, Karen Ivie and husband Mike of Cuba, MO and Keith Byrd of Leasburg, MO; eight grandchildren: Tracy Dace III, J.C. Lowman, Alisha Lowman, Leah Nilges, Joseph Nilges, Sarah Byrd, Carey Byrd, and Emmy Byrd; six great-grandchildren: Tracy Dace IV, Dalton Lowman, Bella Matchell, Adallyn Moreland, Aiden Bates, and Aubrey Bates; one sister, Linda Weiskopf and husband Dave of Sullivan, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Byrd; one daughter, Kathy Byrd; parents, Paul and Helen; and two brothers, James and Gary Carey.

A Memorial Graveside Service was held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Leasburg Cemetery.
