Alice L. Bishop
Alice Bishop, 94, of Bourbon, MO, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Stonebridge of Owensville, MO.
Alice Laura Midyett was born August 19, 1928 at the family place in rural Viburnum, MO to Marcus and Lula Ann (Turnbough) Midyett. She grew up and attended school in that area and upper Indian Creek. Early in her life, she met Clifford Bishop and went on to marry him on January 30, 1945. To this union, they were blessed with five children, Clifford Jr., Norma Jean, Dale, Dean, and Robin. Alice and Clifford operated restaurants in Potosi and Cuba before purchasing their farm near Brazil Creek. They loved the country life and for 77 years built their homestead. Alice was very active on the farm and loved working alongside her husband as they raised hogs and cattle. When Clifford went to work at the mines, it was Alice who kept the farm going and truly was a self-sufficient pioneer woman. She enjoyed having family gatherings at the farm and creating memories for her sixteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. Alice was a strong woman who loved God and her family. She is often described as a spitfire. She was determined, hardworking, loving, positive, and giving. She made each person feel important. Alice was an excellent cook and raised a bountiful garden each year. Her sense of humor brought laughter to her family and friends. Alice will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Alice is survived by her children; son-in-law, Vernon Trendle of Sullivan, MO, Dale Bishop of Chula, MO, Dean Bishop and his wife, Teresa of Bourbon, MO, Robin Voss and her husband Jim of Sullivan, MO; fifteen grandchildren: Alan Trendle and wife Lynn of Bourbon, MO, Jeanie Carey and husband Dan of Bourbon, MO, Diana Martin and husband Aaron of Wildwood, MO, Chad Trendle and wife Carey of Bourbon, MO, Joshua Bishop and wife Savanna of Chillicothe, MO, Cassie Cherpuri and husband Sumanth of India, Benjamin Bishop and wife Taylor of Bourbon, MO, Jenny Blanton and husband Justin of Bourbon, MO, Maggi Gilbert and husband Eric of Rogersville, MO, Karey Briggs and husband Sean of Jefferson City, MO, Lindsey Bain of Elkland, MO, Daniel Voss and wife Julie of Leasburg, MO, Jerod Voss and wife Kristen of Leslie, MO, Julie Voss of Sullivan, MO, Michael Voss of Sullivan, MO, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Lula, her husband, Clifford, one daughter, Norma Jean Trendle, an infant son, Junior, one granddaughter Laura-Lea, one great-grandson, Benjamin Isaac, three brothers; Alva Midyett, Don Midyett, Archie Midyett, and three sisters, Alta Davis, Shirley Raines, Pat Gilson, and two infant siblings.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, January 27, 2023 at Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan with Pastor John Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Metcalf Cemetery, Anthonies Mill, MO.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.
