Head-On Crash Claims Leasburg Woman, Injures Child
A Leasburg woman was killed and three other people were seriously injured June 12 in a head-on crash on Highway 8.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:07 p.m., east of Otter Trail Road in Washington County.
The patrol reported that a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by a 21-year-old Potosi man, was traveling eastbound on Highway 8 and passing several vehicles in the westbound lane.
The driver failed to observe a westbound 2017 Volkswagen Jetta and struck the vehicle head-on, according to the crash report.
The driver of the Jetta, a 30-year-old Leasburg woman, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:29 p.m. by Washington County Coroner Steve Hatfield.
A 10-year-old Leasburg girl who was an occupant in the Jetta suffered serious injuries. She was flown by ARCH 6 to Cardinal Glennon Hospital.
The patrol reported she was wearing a safety device.
The driver of the Dodge suffered serious injuries and was flown by ARCH 10 helicopter to Mercy St. Louis Hospital. The patrol reported he was not wearing a safety device.
A passenger in the Dodge, a 20-year-old Viburnum woman, also suffered serious injuries.
She was taken by Washington County Ambulance to Mercy South Hospital. Her safety device use was listed as unknown.
