Lady Eagles Soar With Three Wins Before Districts

The varsity Lady Eagles (12-8) kicked off their last week of the season with a hat trick of victories.

They seized their first win at home against Dixon (0-13) on Monday, May 12. Sullivan locked the Lady Bulldogs out of the net for an 8-0 sweep, mercying them after one half of play.

Andi Giebler led Sullivan with a career-high 9 points, four goals and four shots. The sophomore also dished out an assist against the Lady Bulldogs.

Jada Adams, Shelby Giebler, Ella Kirk and Tessa Newman tallied 2 points, a goal and a shot.

Kloe Greife, Ava Hayes, Molly Lohden and Addison Wagner assisted a score for a point.

Sullivan traveled to North County (8-15) the following day and dismantled the Lady Raiders 4-1.

Adams topped the Lady Eagles with 4 points, three shots and two goals.

Hayes and Lohden each racked up 3 points, two shots, a goal and an assist.

The Lady Eagles then returned home on Thursday for their final test before districts. They hung on to the end and survived Wright City’s (10-9) late rally to win 4-3.

Newman put her team on the board nineteen minutes into the first half. After Lohden’s pass, she chipped in the goal that would light the fuse for the Lady Eagles.

Hayes set up the second score for Greife to charge towards the net and seize a 2-0 lead.

A minute afterward, Greife received Hayes’ corner kick, then sent the ball to Kirk, who chest-trapped in Sullivan’s third goal.

The Ladycats made their first mark on the board in the second half, then clawed out another score to trail just 3-2.

Kirk came to the rescue again with six minutes to go, capitalizing on Lambert’s assist and sliding in Sullivan’s fourth goal.

Right afterward, Wright City struck back with their final score, but the Lady Eagles stopped them from sending the game into overtime.

Sullivan’s leading scorer, Kirk, described how her team held off Wright City’s late comeback. “I think we just contained them,” she explained. “We just didn’t want them to get past our [scoring] half.”

Kirk led Sullivan with 4 points, Greife followed with 3, Newman picked up 2, while Hayes, Lambert and Lohden each had one.

Jada Adams made five attempts on goal, while Andi Giebler fired three.

After three wins in four days, Kirk and the Lady Eagles looked to continue their success into districts. She stated, “I think having this winning streak, having this momentum, really helps us in districts, especially since we’ve already beaten St. Clair. I just think it gives us that extra push to go and really get them because... St. Clair is our rivalry.”
