Lady Eagles Five-Peat At Owensville Tourney
The varsity Lady Eagles (9-6) won their fifth consecutive title at the Owensville Tournament last week.
Sullivan started with a 7-0 rout over St. James (7-8) on Apr. 29, then beat the brakes off Owensville (2-14) 7-1 the following Thursday.
A day after winning the tournament, Sullivan traveled to DeSoto (8-8) and slayed the Lady Dragons 3-1.
The Lady Eagles have bounced back from a 2-5 start to the season. Sullivan has won seven of their last eight games, with their only loss being to the conference champion Union (9-7).
Head Coach Matt Wiegers attributed Sullivan’s recent dominance to their “team chemistry.” He explained, “Either you have it, or you don’t, [but] thankfully, we’ve found ours. The girls have shown they are more comfortable and confident in their positions, and they are more trusting of their teammates. That allows them to settle into their game, and thus, they play calm, cool and composed. They are a force to reckon with, and that is why we have been able to string together so many wins.”
Sullivan’s junior varsity team also brought home first-place hardware last week. They blanked Northwest (Cedar Hill) with a goal, Hillsboro 6-0 and the host Union 2-0 to win the tournament.
