Eagles Wrestling Soars With All-Area Awards
Fourteen Sullivan High School wrestlers etched their names into this season’s Missourian All-Area Teams.
Carl Lawrence was named Boys’ Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. He described the award as an honor he “will never forget,” saying, “I think it rolls around to how our staff and team worked together. I’m proud that our program cares and invests into the team side of things with wrestling as well as the individual side. To be selected All-Area Coach of the Year amongst the tough competition in our area is a huge honor.”
Ian Henderson (106) dominated his freshman year as a first-team all-area awardee. He finished fourth in Class 2 and won districts while holding a 26-3 season record.
Sullivan had six boys’ second-team all-area recipients: Camden Henderson (120), Carter Blankenship (126), Conner Roach (132), Eli Peregoy (138), Austin Ray (150) and Ethan Turner (175).
Oliver Borton (144) and Brennan Birrer (190) received all-area honorable mentions.
Dorie Richardson (140) capped off her high school career with a first-team all-area selection. The senior placed sixth in Class 1, finished with a 41-4 record and won a conference championship. Richardson also received votes for All-Area Wrestler of the Year.
Abigail Erfurth (235) was the second Lady Eagle awarded a first-team all-area spot. She landed sixth at the state tournament and first at conference and districts. Erfurth finished her sophomore season with a 37-9 record.
Chloe Carson (155) was named second-team all-area after winning a district and conference title.
Ruby Daily (170) and Katie Summers (190) both earned all-area honorable mentions.
Coach Lawrence praised his wrestlers for their hard work on the mats, making it a successful season. He shared, “Our athletes had to put in incredible amounts of effort for years to receive the honors they have in the all-area selection process. [It’s a] really tough area to be high on that list; it goes to show everyone’s efforts and achievements have [come] together and got these athletes the recognition they deserve. They have earned their titles and accolades through a very tough season. I’m incredibly proud of these kids and the entire team and coaching staff for helping shape these athletes to where they have come.”
