Class 4 District 3 Tournament Recaps
Sullivan’s varsity basketball teams finished their seasons in the Class 4 District 3 Tournaments. The Lady Eagles beat St. Clair in the opening round, then fell to St. James in the semifinals. The boys lost early to St. James, ending their year in the quarterfinals.
Varsity Girls
St. James defended its top seed as the Class 4 District 3 Champion. In the semifinal, they crushed No. 5 Sullivan 52-30, then defeated Borgia 71-66 to win the title.
The Lady Tigers found themselves on the ropes early in the championship. They were down 19-9 after the first quarter and 35-20 at halftime.
St. James later rose from the jaws of defeat and clawed themselves back onto the boards. They then pushed the nail-biter into overtime, where they survived to win their fourth straight title.
Borgia was seeded second and then finished as the district runner-up. The Lady Knights routed No. 3 Cuba 59-39 to earn their spot in the championship.
In the quarterfinals, Sullivan stunned fourth-ranked St. Clair 54-38, while Cuba trounced No. 6 Salem 55-41.
Varsity Boys
Owensville crowned themselves the Class 4 District 3 Champion. The No. 2 Dutchmen edged past third-seeded St. James 51-45 in the semifinal, then Salem 42-41 for the title.
Fourth-ranked Salem went on a Cinderella run as the district runner-up. They first beat fifth-seeded St. Clair 62-41, then upset top-ranked Cuba 58-49.
In the quarterfinal, No. 5 Sullivan fell 60-40 to top-seeded St. James.
