Lady Eagles Rout Pacific In Senior Night Blowout

After the Lady Eagles (8-15) said goodbye to their seniors, they bid farewell to Pacific (4-19) with a dominant rout. Sullivan beat the brakes off the Lady Indians 51-25 on Thursday, Feb. 20.

During their senior night, Molly Lohden and Cora Shetley shut down Pacific at the rim while shooting nothing but net.

Head coach Jordan Flora is sad to see both playmakers graduate but is grateful for the mark they have left on the program. He shared, “Having them around for the last four years has been great; they make this so much more enjoyable. You know, as a coach, it’s not always just about a game; it’s about bigger, important things. Those two just make it fun and always have a smile on their faces.”

Flora hopes his two seniors have also learned valuable lessons from their time on the court. He further explained, “Hopefully, they can take some leadership roles [and have learned] how to work together as a team and how to push because, you know, when the real world hits, you’re gonna have to know how to compete.”

Against Pacific, Lohden was lights out with nine points, while Shetley dominated the paint with four.

Olivia Barton put on a shooting clinic, leading Sullivan with twelve points. The 5’5 sophomore also eclipsed her highest-ever score total in varsity.

Kynlee Peterson sank four free throws and a three-pointer.

Sydney Montee swished in two shots from downtown.

Katie Miller drilled in five points, while Ava Hayes dropped two.

Karlee Head and Ella Kirk each drained a triple.

Before crushing the Lady Indians, Flora told his players they needed to “set the tone early and jump on them.” Sullivan did not want to fall behind in the first quarter again, as they had in their previous loss to New Haven.

Now Flora wants to see his team enter each match with that same “dog mentality” they had against Pacific. He said, “You got to come out here with some attitude, and you got to be ready to go. I mean, no one’s going to just hand it to you. You got to be ready to battle; that’s kind of how we preach it daily. You better come out here with some attitude and ready to take care of business.”

Sullivan caps off their regular season against Owensville on the road and Washington at home.

The Lady Eagles will open up districts with a rivalry matchup against St. Clair. The quarterfinal round will take place on Tuesday, Mar. 4, at 5:30 p.m.

After losing to them earlier, Flora says that Sullivan has to “come ready” against the Lady Bulldogs. He stated, “We didn’t shoot the ball well at all that night, but I’d love to have a little rematch against them.”
