Sullivan Basketball Battles New Haven In Quadruple-Header
Sullivan High School traveled to New Haven for a packed night of hoop action. The conference quadruple-header took place on Monday, Feb. 17.
The junior varsity girls tipped off with a 33-26 win, and the boys followed with a 50-27 victory.
In the final minutes, the varsity Lady Eagles (7-15) struggled to rally over New Haven (9-11). They fought from behind throughout but fell 44-39 at the last buzzer.
The varsity boys (4-20) dominated the final match, beating the brakes off the Shamrocks (6-17) 57-32.
Varsity Girls
The varsity girls tried to keep their fight alive with 25 rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals. However, thirty turnovers and 15 fouls held them back.
The Lady Eagles went 6-11 from the free-throw line and 12-51 from the field. They sank 9-21 of their threes but struggled more inside the arc with a 3-24 accuracy.
Katie Miller dropped a team-high nine points. The 5’3 junior also tallied two assists and two rebounds.
Kynlee Peterson topped Sullivan with six rebounds. The 5’9 sophomore also put up 5 points, two steals and an assist.
Molly Lohden led her squad with four assists. She also loaded up 6 points and three rebounds.
Cora Shetley snagged the most steals with four. She also stacked up 2 points, two assists and a rebound.
Sydney Montee tallied six points, five rebounds and a steal.
Karlee Head unleashed six points, an assist and a rebound.
Olivia Barton bagged five points and two rebounds.
Ella Kirk attacked the glass for three rebounds.
Avery Merkel collected an assist and a rebound while Lily Schmuke hauled in a board.
Varsity Boys
The varsity boys excelled from the charity stripe (83%) and beat the Shamrocks from the field (43%) and from the arc (33%). They played lights out, with 27 rebounds, 12 assists, 10 steals, and a block.
Chris Glaser led the Eagles with 19 points. The 6’1 senior sank four shots from downtown.
Peyton Malady also scorched the net, draining 17 points.
Cooper Donner dominated the court with five points.
Landen Doza dropped four scores onto the board.
Jared Toews drilled in a layup and one.
Robert York went 3-4 from the free-throw line.
Brayden White swished in a bucket for two points.
