Eagle Claw Pins Down Ninth Annual Intrasquad Dual

The 9th Annual Eagle Claw Intrasquad Dual ended in a draw on Saturday, Feb. 8. The black and gold teams tied 24 a-piece with five victories each. The Sullivan Area Wrestling Association hosted the meet, where its youth fighters battled it out on the mats.

Coach Carl Lawrence is proud of his wrestlers for always giving it their all and striving to improve. He stated, “The Eagle Claw wrestlers have definitely had a focus on the basics; we also like the dual because it gives a lot of new parents the opportunity to see how the sport functions. [They] have definitely came a long way since the start of [the] season, and we are so proud of them.”

Marcus Haar started the Gold Team on top with a pin over Rhett Mayberry (Black).

Owen Vanover (Black) put his squad on the board, winning a major decision over Lottie Tierney (Gold).

Levi Parks (Gold) boosted his group’s lead in the third round after locking down Brody Long (Black).

The Black Team rebounded with a hat trick of victories. Aria Sunfield (Black) kicked off their run with a takedown over Artemis Aitkenhead (Gold). Caul Dawson (Black) then beat Rogue Bouckaert (Gold), and Owen Turner (Black) won over Clay Schatz (Gold).

The Gold Team began rallying back for the lead. Auggie Johanning (Gold) ignited the comeback with a victory over Dominic Bedrosian (Black). Leona Beckett (Gold) then brought down Jacob Robins (Black), and Chase Lang (Gold) wrapped up Dawson (Black).

Andy Pendergrass (Black) erased his squad’s deficit in the final fight. He shut down Levi Parks (Gold) and capped off the duals with a 24-24 tie.
