Boys Wrestling Takes Down Teams At Hunger Scramble
The Eagles were starving for victory at their Takedown Hunger Scramble on Jan. 17. They cleared their plate, beating Central (Park Hills) 54-18, Dexter 66-18 and Osage 53-30. Attendees who brought a non-perishable food item were treated to a free Friday night smackdown.
Seven wrestlers were also recognized for senior night: Conner Roach, Eli Peregoy, Brennan Birrer, Carter Blankenship, Parker Montee, Tucker Fruewirth and Benjamin Cornejo.
Roach (132) ran the table through his competition. He wrapped up Jasper Sisk (Central Park Hills) in 2:17 and Brenner Davis (Dexter) in 0:28, then won a forfeit.
Peregoy (138) went undefeated, locking up Kane Huskey (Central Park Hills) at 1:52, Clayton Gilkey (Dexter) at 0:22 and Jayden Lara-Fuentes (Osage) at 1:52.
Birrer (190) seized a victory by forfeit, then brought down Simon Bruyette (Dexter) at 0:13 and Levi Hart (Osage) at 5:28.
Blankenship (126) won two of his bouts at the scramble. He quickly pinned Jaeger Adams (Central Park Hills) at 0:18 and Dayton Fornkohl (Dexter) at 1:48. The junior fell at the end to Brock Arrowood (Osage).
Montee (165) raised his hand two times at Friday’s meet. He shut down Chad Cosby (Central Park Hills) in 1:39 and Kodi Lynn (Dexter) in 1:38. The senior’s only loss came to Amos Mundy (Osage).
Fruewirth (285) trapped Gabe Bordon (Dexter) in 3:48 and Alex Tores (Osage) in 2:45 for two wins. He rebounded after dropping his first match to Corbin Thomas (Central Park Hills).
Cornejo (175) showed grit for his one bout on Friday. The senior gave a tough fight to Matrim Politte (Central Park Hills) despite falling at 4:00.
Camden Henderson (120) came out hungry for victory. He took down Mavrick Ratliff (Central Park Hills) at 0:28, Hunter McCollough (Dexter) at 1:17 and Cody McClure (Osage) at 1:21.
Ollie Borton (144) dominated with a 1:18 pin over Tayton Williams (Dexter), a 17-0 technical fall over Dane Miller (Osage) and a win by forfeit.
Austin Ray (150) swept his opponents at the scramble. He shut down Mason Honerkamp (Central Park Hills) at 1:05, Wyatt Hockersmith (Dexter) at 0:27 and Chase Neiberding (Osage) at 1:33.
Lucas Hunter (157) capped off Friday with a 2:36 pin over Christian Herring (Osage). He bounced back after falling in his first two bouts.
Ethan Turner (175) swiftly pinned Aiden Robinson (Dexter) in 0:35 and Bryson Wyrick (Osage) in 1:14.
Brodyn Huebner (215) brought the boom to two of his opponents. He took down Carson Mullins (Dexter) in 0:44 and seized a win by forfeit. The sophomore’s only loss came at the end against Tucker Morgan (Osage).
