Boys Basketball Starts January With Adversity

The Eagles (1-10) tipped off January with three uphill battles. Sullivan first faced adversity at home, losing to Warrenton (59-48) and Desoto (63-43). They then struggled against Cuba on the road, falling 57-39.

The Eagles are still on the ropes, searching for their second win. Head coach Kobe Wands believes that Sullivan needs to “maintain [an] upward trajectory by improving every day.” He explained, “We’re beginning to put some important elements together, but the real challenge is staying consistent, disciplined and focused on our goals. If we continue to grind and execute with purpose, our hard work will pay off and put us in a great position as we move forward.”

Eagles guard Chris Glaser saw his first season action against Desoto. Wands is excited to utilize the 6’1 senior, who led Sullivan in scoring last year. The coach shared, “Glaser brings valuable skills to our team with his exceptional ball control, scoring ability and senior leadership. His presence will not only elevate the team’s overall dynamic but also push others to play at a higher level. We’ll rely on Chris to help facilitate offense, make smart decisions under pressure and bring the team together. He will be a big factor in the second half of the season.”

The varsity boys aim to bounce back before January ends. They will compete in the St. James Invitational and Bruce Thomas Tournament and then travel to the Salem Tigers’ den. The Eagles return from their road trip on Feb. 4, when they will host Hermann to begin conference play.

Warrenton

Landen Doza led Sullivan with 19 points against the Warriors. The sophomore guard shot 8-19 from the field and 5-10 inside the arc. He hauled in five rebounds for his third game back.

Peyton Malady drained 12 buckets, making 3-5 of his two-pointers and 3-3 of his free throws. He also put up three assists, two steals and two rebounds.

Seth Valley dished out a team-high four assists. The senior tallied four points, two steals and a rebound.

Robert York crashed the boards the most for nine rebounds. The 6’2 center drove to the net for two points.

Spencer Thomure swished in five points and snatched a rebound.

Cooper Donner hit the glass for four rebounds and dropped a dime.

Raiden Redd sank two points and assisted a score.

Brayden White knocked in two points and pulled down a board.

Braxton Breen racked up an assist and a rebound.

Jared Toews netted two points on the court.

Sullivan went 7-9 on their free throws, 18-47 on field shots, 13-25 on two-pointers and 5-22 on threes. They logged 24 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals while giving up 20 turnovers and 17 fouls.
