Girls Basketball Tips Off New Year On Top
The Lady Eagles (4-5) enter 2025 with the wind in their sails. They won consolation at their Peoples Bank Holiday Classic after trouncing Salem 58-25 and Steelville 41-30.
They began their season with a barnburner against the Lady Crusaders. Sullivan was at St. Dominic’s doorstep throughout. Despite a tough fight, the Lady Eagles dropped their opener at home in a 31-28 loss.
The Lady Eagles bounced back, beating DeSoto 32-29 in the Fountain City Classic. They then fell to Ste. Genevieve (44-34) and Festus (54-34) to land a fourth-place finish.
Sullivan tipped off week three with a 45-32 win over Warrenton, then capped it with a 36-29 loss to Fox.
The Lady Eagles finished their first month of the season at the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic. After falling to St. Pius X (47-34), Sullivan rose from defeat to beat their final two opponents.
Cora Shetley has swished in a team-high 59 points, averaging 6.6 per game. She is 20-41 from the free-throw line and leads Sullivan with five blocks. The senior notched 32 rebounds, 17 steals and 10 assists in December.
Karlee Head has played lights out in her nine starts this season. She topped her team with 49 rebounds and 26 steals. The sophomore also drained 48 points and dropped 10 dimes for assists. Head was named to the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team.
Lily Schmuke has put on a defensive clinic in her nine games. She has snatched 27 rebounds, 23 points, 11 steals, 10 assists and two blocks.
Olivia Barton dished out a team-high 13 assists. The sophomore also bagged 27 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals.
Molly Lohden tipped off her senior year with 34 points, 13 steals, 12 rebounds and eight assists.
Avery Merkel has shot nothing but net from the charity stripe, going 9-12 on her free throws. The junior has also recorded 23 points, 17 rebounds, four steals, four assists and a block.
Ella Kirk has dominated the court with 26 points, 18 rebounds, six steals and two assists.
Kynlee Peterson has played seven games, putting up 29 rebounds, 24 points, three assists, three steals and a block.
Sydney Montee racked up 18 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and two assists.
Ava Hayes tallied 10 points, five rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist in her eight outings.
