Boys Soccer Stays Tough In Week 8
The Eagles (8-14) lost to Winfield (12-8) on Senior Night and then dropped two games on the road against Jefferson City (6-10-2) and Valley Park (18-3). After week eight, Sullivan will close the regular season against Festus and Warrenton. They will begin district play against Priory on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 12:30 p.m.
Winfield
The Warriors blanked Sullivan by four scores on Monday, Oct. 21.
Goalie Matthew Hamblin started for the Eagles in the home matchup. He made six saves at the net.
Kaden Smith led Sullivan with three shots, Luke Herron and Ben Tanner fired two, while Carsen Dudley made one.
Jefferson City
The Jays edged out Sullivan 2-1 on the following Wednesday. Both teams were tied at one goal each in the first half. Jefferson City then sealed the victory with their second score, leaving the Eagles unable to respond.
Dudley fired in Sullivan’s only goal against Jefferson City.
B. Tanner assisted him on the score.
Eagles goalie Hamblin made a season-high 12 saves against the Jays.
Valley Park
The Eagles fell 4-2 to Valley Park on the road on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Aiden Lawrence and Zaiden Marler made Sullivan’s two goals in the second half.
Herron and Josiah Tanner each assisted a score and fired a shot.
B. Tanner made two on-goal attempts, while Kaden Smith had one.
Eagles goalie Alex Toews grabbed 12 saves.
Districts
Sullivan will compete as the seventh seed at Clayton’s Class 2 District 2 Tournament. They will first play second-ranked Priory in the quarterfinal on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 12:30 p.m.
If the Eagles beat the Ravens, they will advance to the semifinals, which will be held the following Tuesday at 7 p.m. Sullivan would either play third-seeded Bishop DuBourg or sixth-ranked University City.
The host Greyhounds clinched the top seed, while the Collegiate School of Med-Bio Science is fourth and Gateway is fifth.
The district championship will take place on Friday, Nov. 8.
