Mike Kaufman, 69 of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO, with his family by his side.

Michael Allen was born on February 5, 1955, in St. Louis, MO, to Allen G. and Leatrice “Joan” (Peat) Kaufman.  In the streets of North St. Louis, where he first donned football pads for NYA Little League, Mike's athletic prowess became evident. The gridiron of Sullivan Eagles bore witness to his tenacity as he continued his football career through his high school years, graduating in 1973. Yet, it was not only football that captured his heart; the rhythm of drumming called to him, following in the footsteps of his family's drumming lineage. From the tender age of five, he honed this craft with private lessons and later echoed the beats of a bygone era as part of the rock and roll band Mothers Lament. His talent did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by his receipt of the prestigious Phillip Sousa Band Award and a commendable number 1 rating at the State Competition.

The summer of 1973 marked the beginning of a lifelong love story with Robin Head, culminating in their marriage on November 30, 1974. The young couple's move to Arkansas fortified their bond, each other's support in a place far from the familiar. They returned to Missouri with strength and unity, enrolling at Linn Technical College, where Mike emerged in 1978 with a degree in machine tool technology. His professional journey led him to General Electric, where he dedicated thirty-two years, forming lasting friendships along the way.

Family vacations were eagerly anticipated and cherished by Mike, Robin, and their sons, Josh and Jake. Their yearly camping trips were more than mere escapes; they were the cultivation of memories and the strengthening of the family fabric. His commitment to his loved ones was unwavering, and the impending celebration of 50 years of marriage with his beloved Robin stood as a testament to their enduring partnership.

Mike's character was an intricate tapestry—hardworking and steadfast, ornery yet opinionated, with warm hugs that could ease any pain.  His love for sports went beyond personal enjoyment; he took immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren play. Christmases were warmer, meals were tastier, and even the games of the Cardinals and the Rams were more exciting with Mike’s exuberance. His feline companions, Charlie and Blue, added another layer of joy to his well-lived life.

Mike Kaufman leaves behind an indelible legacy not only through his admired career and personal accomplishments but notably through the love, laughter, and life lessons he imparted to all who had the privilege of crossing his path. His departure is felt deeply by his devoted wife, their son, and the extended family and friends whose lives he enriched. As his soul embarks on a new journey, those who cherish his memory will continue to celebrate the gift of his time among them, carrying forward the values and passions that he instilled. Mike's story does not end here, for he lives on in the hearts and stories of every life he touched.

Mike is survived by his wife Robin; son, Jake Kaufman and wife Melanie; daughter-in-law, Megan Strauser and husband Brandon; Jennifer Loehr; six grandchildren: Maddie, Braylon, Braxton, Coen, McKinley and Rhys; brother, Allen and wife Christy and their sons, Harley & Kaleob; and mother-in-law, Delores Head.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved son Josh Kaufman; parents Allen and Joan Kaufman; and father-in-law, Virgil Head.
