George Henry Knecht, 65, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully at his home in Sullivan, MO, on September 16, 2024.  He was born on February 22, 1959 in Easton, PA to his parents, Daniel and Muriel (Jennings) Knecht.

George's journey began in Easton, PA, where he grew up and attended local schools, laying a strong foundation for the remarkable life that would follow. His early years in Easton were marked by a sense of adventure and a deep-seated love for his country, traits that would later define his career and personal life.

George entered the US Navy at the age of 17 where he embarked on what would become a distinguished 22-year career.  The first 16 years in the Navy was characterized by his role as a Navy Seal.  His exceptional skills as a sniper had him traveling around the world in many conflicts earning him recognition and respect among his peers. George's service to his country was not just a job; it was a calling that he answered with pride and excellence.  During the latter years of his service, he drove a truck and did many tasks as a machinist mate until his retirement from the Navy in 1998.

George's heart, however, belonged to his family. He married the love of his life, Tammy Schowe, on June 30, 1984, and together they welcomed their son, Aaren in 1987. The family was later blessed with the addition of their daughter, Lilly, whom they inherited in 2005. The Knecht family's journey took them from Naskeflavik, Iceland, to Virginia Beach, VA, before finally settling in Sullivan, MO, in 2001.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, George briefly worked with Baker Insulation before managing the local Pizza Hut. He eventually found a long-term role with the Blanton family at B&B QwikStop, where he worked until his retirement. George's work ethic and leadership were evident in every role he undertook, and he was as much a fixture in his workplace as he was at home.

George was a man of many passions. He loved fishing and hunting, activities that not only brought him joy but also provided cherished memories with friends and family. His passion for woodworking and crafts was more than a hobby; it was an expression of his creativity and meticulous nature. George also enjoyed shooting his guns, a pastime that reflected his military background and his appreciation for precision and discipline.

George joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2006 and served faithfully in many church callings throughout the remainder of his life.  He and Tammy were sealed in the temple for all time and eternity on December 2012.

George cherished the time he spent with his family and in church activities.  Whether it was a quiet evening at home, an outdoor adventure, the moments he shared with his loved ones were the ones he treasured most. His legacy is not only in the deeds of his storied career but also in the love and laughter he shared with those closest to him.

George is survived by his wife, Tammy; his son, Aaren Knecht and wife, Brittany of Sullivan, MO; his daughter, Lilly Seaton of St. Louis, MO; his grandson, Jack Cadieux; his mother, Muriel Knecht of Easton, PA; two sisters:  Elizabeth “Betty” Steinmetz and Peggy Knecht both of Easton, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Knecht.

A Memorial service is planned for a later date.  Cremation will take place.
