Eric H. Schmidt

Eric H. Schmidt, 77 of Sullivan, MO passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Life Care Center. Eric Harold was welcomed into the world on December 24, 1946, in Sullivan, MO, where he was born to Harold and Bessie (Steen) Schmidt. Eric attended and graduated from Sullivan High School class of 1964.
Eric was dedicated to education which led him to Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, MO where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He taught school for one year before joining the Army. A true patriot; he honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, with a tenure in Germany reflecting his love for his nation. Eric's commitment to lifelong learning was paralleled only by his faithful devotion to his beloved wife, Vicki Dianne Simmerman, whom he married on August 11, 1979. The couple cherished forty-six years together, building a legacy of love and mutual respect.
Eric's professional life was as diverse as it was impactful. He worked as an educator, sharing knowledge and inspiring young minds. His career trajectory led him to the Bank of Sullivan for nineteen years. Later, his expertise was greatly valued at Modern Garage, where he excelled as the Accounts Manager until his retirement in 2009.
A cornerstone of his community, Eric was a very devoted Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sullivan. In his forty years as a deacon, thirty as treasurer, and countless Sundays as a teacher, Eric exemplified the love and teachings of Christ. His influence extended beyond his local congregation as he represented his church in the American Baptist Association on matters of great importance.
Known for his gentle demeanor, Eric was a man of deep integrity and kindness. His life was a testament to the virtues he held dear. Eric's legacy is not only in the roles he filled with such grace but in the countless lives he touched through his commitment to faith, fellowship, and community. He will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Eric is survived by his wife Vicki Schmidt of Sullivan, MO; beloved cousin and caregiver Alison Revelle and husband Josh of Sullivan, MO; brother-in-law, James Simmerman and wife Virgie of Sullivan, MO; sister- in-law Bonnie Roosmann and husband George of Farmington, MO; a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating. Eric will be laid to rest beside his parents in Oddfellows Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Sullivan.
In lieu of flowers, donations to First Baptist Youth Program in memory of Eric are appreciated.
