Sullivan Girls Wrestling Eclipses Historic Milestones (Recap)
Last winter, Sullivan’s girls wrestling team pinned down its most accomplished year in program history. The Lady Eagles gave it their all on the mat, with veterans winning championships and young guns rising to the top.
Sullivan won its first-ever tournament at Fox High School and was the district runner-up. They also finished second in the DeSoto tournament and third in Union, St. Clair and Four Rivers. The Lady Eagles held a 6-3 record when dueling other squads.
Head coach Brad Landwehr led Sullivan for one last time and finished third in the All-Area coach rankings in his final season.
Dorie Richardson (38-3) was the Class 1 State and Four Rivers champion. The junior clinched the top of the podium in Wright City, Owensville, St. Clair, DeSoto and Fox. Richardson also received All-Area Second-Team honors, was the district runner-up and took 2nd at Union.
Jade Studdard (33-2) won the conference tournament and was selected for the All-Area First Team. She placed 1st in Wright City, DeSoto and Fox. Studdard also finished 2nd at districts, Union and St. Clair during her senior year on the mat.
Mariah Denney (31-4) made big rookie strides last season, winning the district championship and being named to the All-Area First Team. The freshman clinched the top podium at Wright City, St. Clair, DeSoto and Fox. She also placed second in the conference tournament.
Maria Schatzl (31-11) was an All-Area Honorable Mention. The senior placed first in Fox, second in districts and third in the conference, Union and St. Clair tournaments. She also got fourth in DeSoto and Owensville.
Freshman Abigail Erfurth (19-6) earned a spot on the All-Area First Team. She was declared the district and conference champions. Erfurth also took 1st in DeSoto and Fox, 2nd in St. Clair, and 3rd in Union.
Ruby Daily (20-12) received an All-Area Honorable Mention and was the conference runner-up. The junior landed first in Fox and second in Owensville and Union. She also took fourth at the Wright City, St. Clair and district tournaments.
Freshman Alyssa Beers (16-9) earned an All-Area Honorable Mention and finished first at Four Rivers and Owensville. She also took 2nd at Fox and 3rd at DeSoto.
Chloe Carson (17-11) rocked her freshman year, taking an All-Area Honorable Mention. Her highest finish was first place in Owensville. She also got third in DeSoto, Fox, and districts and fourth in St. Clair.
Junior Karen Dietzler (11-10) finished third in the Four Rivers and Wright City tournaments.
During her junior year, Sadie Altimus (5-10) landed third at Wright City and fourth at the conference tournament.
Junior Katie Summers (6-6) and senior Peyton Evans (1-13) took 4th in Owensville.
