Youth Runners Go The Extra Mile At XC Country Camp

The youth runners tested their endurance and had the time of their lives at the XC country camp, held from July 8 to 11. Head coach Terry Wood, assistant Amy O’Dell, and current Eagle athletes trained the 4th-8th graders who will later take the baton as Sullivan High School’s next generation of sprinters.

The youth learned proper techniques, such as how to pace oneself, run without getting tired and stretch safely to avoid injury. They also gave it their all in every relay and competition, going the extra mile with their effort no matter how many steps they had to take.

Once the four-day camp wrapped up, the kids were rewarded for crossing the finish line. Each student received a customized rubber duck, popsicle and later a T-shirt. To cap things off, they got to play an intense game of ball tag.
