Jack L. Sohn Sr.

Jack L. Sohn Sr., 86, of Sullivan, MO, known to all as Jack, lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and a deep love for his family and friends. Born on July 15, 1937 to his parents Orla and Alona “Allie” (Dill) Sohn at the family cabin down on the Meramec River, Jack's journey began amidst the beauty of nature, a theme that would weave throughout his entire life. On May 25, 2024, Jack's story came to a peaceful close at his home in Sullivan surrounded by the love and memories that he had cultivated over 86 fulfilling years.
Jack's formative years were spent in High Ridge, where he attended grade school before moving on to Sullivan High School, graduating with the class of 1955. Shortly thereafter, Jack's sense of duty called him to serve his country, and in September 1955, he entered the US Army. His service was characterized by the honor and integrity that would define his life, earning him an honorable discharge in 1958.
Upon returning to civilian life, Jack's industrious spirit led him to master a variety of skills. He worked in carpentry, mining, and mechanics, demonstrating a versatility and work ethic that would become his hallmark. Jack's passion for mechanics flourished as he became a certified automotive mechanic, co-operating Main Street Garage with his partner, Robert Scott, and later opening his own venture, Hwy 185 Garage. There, he served the Sullivan community until his well-deserved retirement.
Jack's heart found its match when he married the love of his life, Diane Lynn, on May 28, 1960, in St. Clair, MO. Their union was blessed with two children, Jack Jr. and Michelle, to whom Jack was a devoted father, imparting his values and love for life's simple pleasures.
A man of faith, Jack was a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church, where he found joy and fellowship in Sunday School class gatherings. His commitment to community was further demonstrated through his involvement with the Odd Fellows and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where his friendly demeanor and optimistic outlook uplifted many.
Music coursed through Jack's veins. He loved singing and playing the guitar and harmonica, often serenading friends and family with tunes that echoed his love for life. Jack's affinity for the outdoors was unmistakable. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, relishing the times he could camp under the stars. His interest in cars and bikes was not just a profession but a hobby that he passionately pursued.
A craftsman at heart, Jack enjoyed woodworking, creating pieces that reflected his precision and care. Traveling with Diane and the kids was another of Jack's cherished activities, exploring the vast landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming, and making memories across the United States.
Above all, Jack valued the time spent with his family and friends. His presence was a source of joy, his hands always ready to help, and his outlook unfailingly optimistic. Jack was a true friend, a handy craftsman, and a beacon of positivity to all who had the fortune to cross his path.
