Virginia Catherine Bittner
V. Cathy Bittner, 76, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia Catherine Bittner was born on December 19, 1947, in Sullivan, MO, to Jim and June (Fowler) Dean. Cathy grew up in Sullivan where she attended school and graduated in the class of 1966. Post-graduation, she ventured to Saint Louis, where she embarked on a fulfilling career in the Title Insurance Industry. Her professional journey included significant roles at Investors Title in Clayton and First American Title, where she was known for her dedication and meticulous work.
Later in life, Cathy met her soon to be husband, Mike Bittner, on a blind date. They soon were united in marriage on October 6, 1982. The union not only brought them joy but also expanded their family when they adopted their son, Ryan, in 1988. Cathy and Mike relocated to Stanton in 1992 and later returned to Sullivan in 2003. Cathy continued her career at the Hansen Title Company until 2003 when she took an early retirement due to health concerns.
Cathy was an avid camper, a fervent supporter of the Cardinals baseball team, and enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of bowling. Cathy's commitment to her community was evident in her role as a board member of the Harney Mansion Foundation and her active participation in Operation Christmas Child. She also enjoyed studying her family genealogy.
Cathy's love for travel grew in her retirement years, as she and Mike explored new destinations together. Gettysburg and Branson were among their favorite places to visit, creating lasting memories on each trip. Cathy's faith was a cornerstone of her life, accepting the Lord at an early age and following in believer’s baptism. This faith was her guiding light, influencing her actions and interactions with everyone she met.
Faithful, kind, gentle, beautiful inside and out are just a few attributes of Cathy. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Mike Bittner of Sullivan, MO; a son, Ryan Bittner and wife LaDawne of Saint James, MO; two grandchildren, Jaimee Hall of Saint James, MO, and Jarrett Hall of Rolla, MO; a great grandchild, Rayne Bales; two brothers in law, Rick Bittner and wife Liz of Branson, MO, and Jerry Bittner and wife Cheryl of Belleville, IL; a sister-in-law, Linda Whitaker and husband Bill of Belleville, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and June.
Funeral Services will be 10 AM, Friday, May 17, 2024, at Temple Baptist Church with Pastors Scott Perry and Ted Hurley officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM, Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Temple Baptist Church.
