JV Lady Eagles Show Resilience In Back To Back Defeats
The JV Lady Eagles struggled against Capital City in a 43-34 loss and Father Tolton in a 36-29 defeat at home. Both games occurred on back-to-back days, with the first on Thursday, Jan. 18, and the second on Friday.
In the first three quarters, Sullivan remained neck-and-neck with the Lady Cavaliers and Trailblazers but collapsed due to pressure in the fourth.
Head coach Bria Miller explained that her team needs to learn how to slow down when going to shoot. “They break the press just fine, and then we get across half-court, and we forget to slow down. We just want to go and try to score,” she explained.
Avery Merkel, who has already seen varsity time this season, started in her first JV game on Friday against Father Tolton. Miller praised her for a strong debut performance: “She was big for us tonight, so I’m excited to have her down with me.”
Merkel delivered Sullivan’s first points against the Lady Trailblazers, and her defensive skills also helped keep the Lady Eagles in Friday’s game. She would rack up 10 points, with six in the first quarter alone.
