JV Boys Wrestling Triumphs At Pacific

The JV boys’ wrestling team competed at Pacific High School on Saturday, Jan. 6 and boasted strong individual finishes.

Carsen Dudley (120) clinched the top of the podium after swiftly pinning Landen Schaper (Rolla) in 4:54 for first place. His other four victories came against Mason Payne-Steward (Rolla) in 1:33, William Deal (Ft. Zumwalt North) in 1:19, Dmitry Maloney (Liberty-Wentzville) in 3:31 and Braeden Wehrsten (Rockwood Summit) in 0:47.

Christian Hulsey (190) also went undefeated and beat his teammate, Brennan Birrer, to land at the top of his class. In his first four rounds, he emerged victorious in a 3-1 decision over Jude Miller (Ft. Zumwalt North), a 1:19 pin over Christopher Voss (Union), a 3:21 takedown over Kasen Owens (Washington) and a swift 0:28 fall over Tyler Hochstetler-Neyman (Rolla).

Malachi Barton (215) took first in his group, crushing his opponents on Saturday. He dominated with a 2:53 pin over Ryan Balsman (Seckman), a 2:54 fall over Dalton Gideon (Rockwood Summit), a 1:08 takedown of Jackson Bragg (Union) and a 1:07 shutdown over Mohammed Hussein (Rockwood Summit).

Ian Neels (157) placed 2nd in his class. He kicked off his day by winning a 13-4 major decision over Curtis Broeker (Washington). Then, after losing a 10-3 decision to Victor Fite (Seckman) in his second round, he bounced back with takedowns of Kamden Pier (Washington) in 2:44 and Derek Kuemmel (Rockwood Summit) in 3:18. Neels nearly reached the top of the podium but was unable to due to a medical forfeit in his final match.

Birrrer (190) finished behind his teammate, Hulsey after soaring past his first four challengers. He was quick on the mat, pinning Aidan Holder (Seckman) in 2:42, Jackson Besselman (St. Charles West) in 0:45, Seth Romine (Rolla) in 0:54 and Jordan Krumrey (Pacific) in 3:54.
