To kick off the first quarter, Peyton Malady and Chris Glaser swooshed in a 3 to tie it up 6-6 against the Lions. Yet, as fouls and broken-up throws hurt the Eagles, Northwest surged ahead with a 15-6 lead. Seth Valley and Mitchell Garner refused to back down, grabbing four points while Malady delivered a buzzer-beater to put them trailing at 17-12 by the end of the period.
Sullivan entered the second quarter more confidently as Malady and Matthew Mallory netted three-pointers. Valley tied it up on a layup, causing the court to erupt excitedly. The Eagles continued to soar ahead, with Glaser executing a 3-pointer to steal the lead. But Northwest responded with a buzzer-beater to tie it 23-23 before halftime.
