Sullivan Man Brandishes Knife While Fleeing Police In Stolen Car

A Sullivan man was arrested Dec. 12 after he allegedly brandished a knife while fleeing law enforcement in a stolen car.

Tyler A. Fryer has been charged with resisting arrest, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon, property damage and fourth-degree assault.

Fryer also struck a marked patrol car, causing more than $9,500 in damage.

According to the probable cause statement, Fryer was driving a car that had been stolen Dec. 6 in Franklin County.

Police tried to stop Fryer, who drove up to 78 mph in a 35-mph zone. 

While fleeing, Fryer brandished a 12-inch knife out the window that he later admitted was to intimidate police.

The pursuit ended when Fryer crashed into a utility pole. He continued to clutch the knife while officers approached him.
