George Gerard Valley

George Gerard Valley, 75, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023, at Gasconade Manor in Owensville, MO. Born on September 26, 1948, in Gerald, MO, George lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a hard-working nature that endeared him to all who knew him.
George's early years were spent in Champion City, MO, where he attended Holy Martyrs of Japan and Spring Bluff schools. He later attended Sullivan High School.
In 1969, George bravely entered the US Army and served our country in the Vietnam War. His service was marked by courage and dedication, and he returned home in 1971 a decorated veteran. Upon his return to Sullivan, George made his home and began a lifelong career in the construction field. He found employment for many years with Schatz Underground and was known for his hard work and dedication to his craft.
George was a proud member of the American Legion, reflecting his ongoing commitment to service. His love for his community was evident in his generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
An avid outdoorsman, George enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a particular fondness for cutting wood, finding peace and satisfaction in the simplicity of the task. Something about George that everyone knew about him was that he was not to be bothered on Sunday mornings (even the solicitors knew this). The reason being that he was deeply involved watching his hero on television: Popeye!
George's generous nature extended beyond his family and friends, as he was always ready to share his catch or lend a hand with a project. His kind spirit and generosity were hallmarks of his character and will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his two sons, George and Jerry Valley, both of Leasburg, MO; his sisters, Christine Brake and husband, Phil of Bourbon, MO, Betty Bradley of Indiana, Theresa Whitford and husband, Wade of Missouri, Margie Patterson of Sullivan, MO, Charlotte Valley of Washington, MO; and his special friend, Elaine Steuernagel of Bourbon, MO. He also leaves behind his special great-nephews, Justin, Jace & Jaron Shoemaker of Bourbon, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sophie Valley; three brothers, Bud, Bob, and Bill; and two sisters, Virginia Blum and Laverne Lindblum.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan. Inurnment will follow at Bourbon Cemetery in Bourbon with full military honors.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Eaton Funeral Home with cremation to follow.
