Dorothy Aileen Gauzy

Dorothy Aileen Gauzy, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Sullivan, MO, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the age of 86. Born on August 27, 1937, in Owensville, MO, Dorothy lived a life characterized by love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Dorothy's early years were spent in rural Gasconade County, where she attended Tea school and then graduated from Owensville High School in 1955. On September 1, 1956, Dorothy married the love of her life, Jerome (Jerry) Gauzy, at Holy Family Parish in Port Hudson. Before starting their family, Dorothy worked at Gerald Cap Factory and then Japan Midwest Shoe Co. (now Paramount Apparel).
Blessed with four daughters, Kathy, Margie, Laura, and Karen, Dorothy transitioned to a life of homemaking. She showed immense dedication and love in raising her girls. In 1979, Dorothy and her husband started their business, Gauzy Excavating and Grading, where she served as the bookkeeper until their retirement in 2005.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was an active parishioner involved in teaching Parish School of Religion and organizing funeral dinners. She was also an involved member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus, where she was popular for her contribution of “baked goodies” for their bingo nights. Dorothy was well known for her home cooking, often found preparing meals for her family as well as others. She loved tending her garden and canning the harvest. One of her greatest joys was taking her grandkids fishing.
Dorothy was a courageous, faith-filled, and selfless individual. She was always ready to lend a hand, and her graciousness was felt by everyone who had the privilege to know her. She was a pillar of strength for her family, and her memory will be treasured by those who survive her.
Dorothy is survived by her four daughters: Kathy Foshage and husband, Matt of Fenton, MO; Margie Kase and husband, Jim of Sullivan; Laura Schromm and husband, Brian of Ballwin, MO; and Karen Juergens and husband, Richard of Sullivan; 9 grandchildren: Ryan Foshage, Kelsey Foshage, Kimberly Kase, Craig Kase, Eric Kase (and wife, Michelle), Sarah Schromm, Aaron Schromm, Samantha Sheldon, and Kayla Riddle; 4 great-grandchildren: Logan Kase, Carter, Conor, and Charlie Sheldon; her sister-in-law, Wanda Gauzy of Gerald, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, beloved cousins, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, and her parents, Esco and Nora (Tayloe) Thenhaus.
A Funeral Mass will be 12:30 PM, Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Father Noah Waldman and Father Paul Telken celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.
