Eagles Struggle To Score As Warrenton Nets Six Goals
Warrenton (11-9) scored six goals against Sullivan as the Eagles (7-15) failed to score any on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Luke Herron and Kaden Smith each had 2 shots, while Cambrian Koch and Wyatt Kraus each made one shot.
Junior Matthew Hamblin had his second stint as the starting varsity goalkeeper for Sullivan and made a remarkable 27 saves. He has played goalie for the junior varsity team since his sophomore year and has filled in for varsity starter Alex Toews when he is unavailable.
Hamblin claims that his two seasons so far have taught him what he needs to help his team achieve victory. “It has prepared me for the varsity level by giving me a level to work at where I can make mistakes and learn from them without affecting the outcomes of the varsity matches,” he stated.
Hamblin has also been called upon 3 other times to protect the net at the end or in the middle of games.
Regarding why he is seeing more varsity time, Hamblin explained that it’s because “the mistakes I’ve made on JV have been made and I’ve been able to work and make less mistakes once I get on the varsity level.”
