Mariah Denney Takes 1st At Gans Creek Classic

Cross country ran at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia on Saturday, Sep. 23.

Freshman Mariah Denney finished in 1st place with a time of 19:13.30, her second so far this month with her first top finish coming at the Sullivan Invitational.

Senior Breanna Mayberry placed 44th at 23:38.50 in the varsity girls white division for the 5000-meter run, which had 181 participants.

Lexington led the race with 50 points and an average time of 21:24, followed by Odessa (146) in 2nd place, Clever (147) in 3rd place, Pleasant Hill (148) in 4th place and Steelville (159) in 5th place.

Boys

Sullivan finished 19th out of 35 teams with 550 points in the 5000-meter run. There were a total of 265 runners.

Junior Abram Denney finished 9th place with a time of 17:22.10, earning 8 points. Freshman Ayden Duncan (112) placed 122nd at 20:42.40. Sophomore Nolan Studdard (126) came in 138th with a time of 20:53.90. Senior Ian Studdard (136) finished 152nd at 21:07.90. Freshman Sam Simmington (168) placed 190th at 22:33.40. Senior Parker Whaley (171) secured 194th place at 22:54.90 and junior William Hunter (183) achieved 208th place at 23:20.10.

Dexter claimed the division with 82 points, followed by Priory (129) in 2nd place, Knob (132) in 3rd place, Lutheran Kansas City (146) and New Bloomingfield (248) rounding out the top 5.
