Larry D. Laird

Larry D. Laird, 57, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2023 surrounded by his family at Mercy Hospital in Washington.
Larry Dwayne Laird was born March 16, 1966 to Boice and Mary (Kramer) Laird in Saint Louis, Missouri. He grew up and attended school in Ballwin until the age of 12. He then moved with his family to the Sullivan area and continued grade school in Spring Bluff, later becoming a proud graduate of the Sullivan High School class of 1985.
Following graduation, Larry remained in Sullivan while working various jobs and playing for the HomeCookin’ Band. He later met the love of his life, Kim Blankenship. They were soon united in marriage on February 14, 1992. Together they blended their families and continued raising their children in Sullivan.
Larry went on to be employed by the Local 110. He later had a career change and attended a truck driving academy in 2009 to become an over the road truck driver. In 2017 while he was driving for YRC, he switched to a daily pickup and delivery driver. Larry made lasting friendships with everyone he worked with during his time at YRC.
Larry had a deep passion for music, which was evident at the age of 3. He was a talented musician who could play the mandolin, guitar, and bass with ease. Larry was always involved with various bands throughout his life and never passed an opportunity to join in on a good jam. His love for bluegrass, country music and Rock and Roll was infectious, and he enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals and sharing his musical talents with others. Larry strummed his last chord as a member of the Oak Hill String Band.
In addition to his love for music, Larry enjoyed camping at Red Bluff and spending time with his family and friends there. He was also an avid Chiefs and Blues fan! His love for music, the outdoors and the Chiefs was only surpassed by his love for Jesus.
Above all, Larry was a loving, kind and selfless friend and a devoted husband and father. He will be so dearly missed and always lovingly remembered.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Kim Laird, of Sullivan, Missouri; their six children, Christopher Laird, Joshua, Chris, Jesse, Brannon, and Misty; 10 beloved grandchildren; his parents, Boice and Mary Laird; a brother, Ron Laird and wife Kelly of Sullivan, Missouri; two sisters, Linda Cissell and partner Dave Durrell of High Ridge, Missouri, and Diane Capestro and husband Joseph of Saint Clair, Missouri; his cherished puppy dogs, Eddy Van Laird and Teddy Bear Laird; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Harry and Gertrude Kramer and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Catherine Laird.
