Wanda L. Thompson

Wanda L. Thompson, 80, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at LifeCare Center in Sullivan.

Wanda Lee Smith was born on August 30, 1942 to Ralph and Leona (Record) Smith in Mint Hill, Missouri. She grew up and attended school in Sullivan, graduating in the class of 1960. Wanda was soon united in marriage to Bobby Blankenship in 1962 and together they were blessed with a daughter, Kim. They sadly later divorced.

Wanda continued raising Kim in Sullivan while working for Ramsey Corporation as an inspector. It was while working at Ramsey she met Charlie “Curly” Schleifer. They were eventually united in marriage on December 22, 1967 and together blended their families and continued raising their children in Sullivan while remaining employed at Ramsey Corp. Wanda and Curly shared 17 wonderful years of marriage until Curly’s passing in 1984.

She was later united in marriage to John “Bob” Thompson on September 20, 1985. To this union Wanda gained a son, Rob. The couple remained in Sullivan and shared 37 years of marriage while owning and operating the B & W Shop. Wanda and Bob enjoyed spending time with their family at gathering and BBQ’s. They especially loved their grandchildren.

Both Wanda & Bob will be so dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Wanda is survived by a daughter, Kim Laird and husband Larry of Sullivan, MO; a son, Rob and wife Sarah Thompson of Granite City, IL; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Armistead – Kuenzel of Granite City, IL; other relatives and many friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Thompson; her parents, Ralph and Leona; a brother, Bobby Pounds; and two sisters, Shirley Landing and Norma Spindler.

Arrangements for cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
