James E. Spencer

James “Jimmy” Spencer, 66, of Sullivan, MO passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
James E. Spencer, known as Jimmy, was born on March 6, 1956 to James E. and Betty (Hickinbotham) Spencer. He grew up in Sullivan and attended and graduated from Sullivan High School, class of 1974. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy. James later attended East Central College and earned an Associate’s Degree in CAD Design. He would work in this field later in life. For many years, he was self-employed as a mechanic, working on small engines and designing engines for race cars. He was known as a man of many talents who could fix anything. Jimmy was a quiet person who mostly stayed to himself, although he had some very close friends. He enjoyed Ham Radio, riding his bike in numerous races, and supporting paralyzed veteran’s. In 2000, Jimmy was proud to be chosen by the paralyzed veterans to carry the Olympic Torch. He was loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his never give up spirit.
Jimmy is survived by his mother, Betty Spencer of Sullivan, MO; one brother, Kenneth Spencer of Sullivan, MO; three sisters: Sheila Tod and husband David of Washington, MO; Cynthia Davis and husband Rick, and Penny Pitman, all of Sullivan, MO; nieces and nephews: Gary Tod and wife Nicole, Matthew Tod and wife Amanda, all of Washington, MO, Rachel Thomure and husband Nick of Sullivan, MO, Amanda Mullen and husband Don of Miami, FL, Joe Davis of Sullivan, MO, Brandon Pitman of Branson, MO, and Sierra Pitman of Sullivan, MO; great-nieces and nephews: Hailey, Owen and Victoria Tod, Kylee, Emma and Spencer Thomure, Freddie Mullen, Carson and Oliva Davis; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Spencer.
Arrangements for cremation have been made. Memorial Services will be 12:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.
The Spencer family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Friday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in James’ memory may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
