Joyce E. Bailey
Joyce E. Bailey, 83, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
Joyce Earlene was born October 2, 1938 in Granite City, IL to Fred and Iva (Powell) Holder. Her family moved to Missouri when she was a small child. Joyce married Lloyd Otten and to this union they were blessed with a son, Steve. The pair eventually divorced.
Later, Joyce married Daniel “Buck” Bailey. In 1963, they made Sullivan their home and raised their six children. Joyce worked for Family Motor Inn for 13 years, and four years at Dollar General. She was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues with her husband, and later, with her daughter Dee Ann and other friends. Joyce loved to travel and go on cruises. She took many trips through Sullivan Bank, including Hawaii, Ireland, and Alaska. Joyce enjoyed dancing and being with people. She was a longtime member of the Eagles’ and Rebecca’s Lodges.
Joyce is survived by three of her sons: Steve Otten and his companion Patty of St. Clair, MO, Alex Bailey of Eldon, Mo, and John Bailey and wife Sara of Washington, MO; two daughters, Dee Ann Bell and her husband Jeff of Bourbon, MO and Rhonda Ritter of St. Clair, MO; twelve grandchildren: Josh Otten, Josh and Jenessa Bell, Erin and Shawn Bailey, Charlie Ritter, Debbie Nugent, Tina Layson, Amanda Reagan and husband Aaron, DJ Bailey and wife Ashley, Shawnna Monroe and husband Josh, and Shannon Carr and husband Rick; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd; her second husband, Daniel “Buck”; two daughters, Tanya Sue (in infancy) and Diana Nugent; one son, Daniel Bailey; two grandsons, Danny and Kevin; her parents, Fred and Iva Holder; one brother, Fred Holder; and two sisters, Dorothy Halbrook and Melba Rice.
Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, August, 24, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Matt Dudley officiating.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the Eaton Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in Joyce’s memory may be given to The Ridge Church of Sullivan.
