Lady Eagles Win First Team Title In History
The Lady Eagles wrestling team placed third at the DeSoto Tournament on Friday night, landing their first team trophy in program history.
Seventeen teams competed at the tournament.
The ladies had six wrestlers medal.
Marina Smith received the second place medal in the 105 weight class. In round one, she pinned Sarah Gazaway of Festus at 0:52. In round two, Smith pinned Ellie Douglass of Sikeston at 1:24. Smith was pinned by Madison Young of Central Park Hills at 1:08 in round three.
Karen Dietzler finished in fourth place in the 110 weight class. In the quarterfinals, Dietzler fell to Jasmynne Green of Sikeston to a 9-6 decision. For consolation round one, Dietzler won by a 12-0 major decision over Josey Alfermann of Union. Dietzler pinned Lily Pauley of Windsor Imperial at 3:24 for the consolation semifinals. She fell to Mariella Cox of Parkway Central to a pin at 2:45 in the third place match.
Jade Studdard finished with a fourth place medal in the 125 class. The quarterfinals had Harley Vance of Potosi fall to Studdard. Studdard received a bye for consolation round one. For the consolation semifinals, she pinned Paytan Rulo of DeSoto at 1:58. Studdard fell to Vance by a 3-2 decision in the third place match.
Dorie Richardson finished with a second place medal at 135. She received a bye in the quarterfinals. She pinned Gracie Straatman of Union at 4:2 for the semifinals. Richardson was pinned by Kate Grubbs of Sikeston at 0:50 in the first place match.
Julianna Graddy competed in the 141 weight class. In round one, she was pinned by Kenette Way of Windsor Imperial at 3:29. In round three, Graddy fell to Lila Eckert of Sikeston due to injury.
Maria Schatzl placed second in the 149 class. She received a bye in the quarterfinals. Schatzl pinned Shanell Williams of Sikeston in three minutes for the semifinals. She was pinned by Hannah Eberhardt at 2:34 in the first place match.
Reya Bristow finished in third place at 235. In round one, she was pinned at 1:16 by Karli McFarland of Central Park Hills. Bristow was pinned by Alayna Ray of Sikeston at 1:56 in round two.
