Mary Cardwell

Mary Audean Hammond Cardwell passed from this life Thursday, October 28, 2021 in Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 97.
Mary was born February 3, 1924 in Kensett, Arkansas, to Marion J. and Savannah A. (Pryor) Goree. She was a homemaker and worked in retail sales during her younger years. She moved several times during her lifetime when her husband was transferred with his work. Never was there a complaint heard from her as she packed swiftly and with great organizational skills. Mary was a lifelong born-again Christian, choosing the Southern Baptist Church to exercise her faith in Jesus Christ. She had a tremendous Soprano voice and as a young woman, could yodel with the best of them. There were some great sing-a-longs around the organ and piano.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary L. Hammond Murphy; and her son, David F. (Cheryl) Hammond. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Wendy (Mike) Jean, Carolyn (Larry) Townsley, Angie (Steve) Miller, Willian (Angie) Hammond, David (Karrie) Hammond, Lisa Wapelhorst, Beverly Murphy and Leigh A. Frazier. She was blessed with nineteen great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren. She was loved dearly by all of them.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two husbands, William L. Hammond and Louis “Bud” Cardwell; a daughter, Martha “Mart” C. Hammond Hartwig; son-in-law, Morris Murphy; grandson, Garold “Scott” Doyle; great-grandson, Caleb Jean; and grandson-in-law, Timothy Wapelhorst. She outlived all of her siblings: Jamie, Wymon, Marion, Jr., Delta, Annie and Lorene.
Services were held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri, with Pastor Mike Jean officiating.
Visitation was from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home.
Graveside services were held 1 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, Arkansas.
