Blankenships Throw Shutouts Against Gasconade County Opponents
The Lady Eagles played two games this week that ended with their opponents being shut out.
Sullivan beat Hermann on their home field 19-0 on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Owensville to win 10-0.
Jaedin Blakenship pitched a no-hitter on Tuesday against Hermann. The first inning popped off with Kayla Ulrich hitting a fly ball into a double. Riley Branson was walked and Sophia Weirich steps up to bat. Strike one looking, and Branson steals second. Weirich then hits a ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop. Ulrich and Branson both scored and the Lady Eagles drew first blood, 2-0. Grace Halmick came in as the courtesy runner for Weirich and stole second. Halmick scored on an RBI by Jaedin Blankenship and the score was 3-0.
The Lady Eagles scored another three runs at the top of the second and scored 6 runs at the top of the third inning making the score 12-0. Sullivan scored two more runs at the top of the fourth to go up 14-0. They kept scoring and plated five more runs to make the final 19-0
Blakenship finished the game and allowed zero hits to Hermann. She struck out 11 batters and only allowed one walk.
Owensville
On Thursday, Evvie Blakenship took the mound looking for a repeat of Tuesday and she accomplished that for the Lady Eagles at Owensville.
Ulrich was the first to reach base for Sullivan on a single ground ball. Branson reached on an error and Ulrich advanced to third base. Weirich singled on a line drive and she scored Branson and Ulrich, putting Sullivan ahead 2-0.
The bats really came alive for the Lady Eagles when Ulrich smoked a home run in the top of the third. Sullivan scored five runs and led 7-0.
They weren’t done and brought in another three runs in the fourth inning.
Evvie Blankenship allowed one hit. She struck out five and walked none.
