Capital City Comes Alive Against Lady Eagles

The bats of Capital City is what made the game on Saturday morning.

Sullivan fell 8-4 to the Cavaliers in the semifinals of the Peoples Bank Back To School Classic.

The Lady Eagles gave up four runs in the first inning.

"The first inning did not look as sharp as we are." said head coach Ashley Crump. "We had some our freshmen getting things done at the plate. They started some things for us. But we knew that this was a really tough team and we expected a really tough ballgame and that's what they gave us. Cap City is a phenomenal team."

The Lady Eagles put up a good effort to begin the game.

Jaedin Blakenship took the mound for the Eagles and Cap City struck first. Their runs came on a mix of errors and passed balls.

Sullivan escaped the inning when Riley Branson threw out a runner at home from center field.

The Lady Eagles tried to come back but fell short.

Capital City scored two runs in the second and two more in the third, while Sullivan continued to struggle at the plate.

The Sullivan Lady Eagles bats started to come alive at the top of the fifth inning. Dorie Richardson made it to second on a stand-up double.

Lohden doesn't leave her stranded and drives her in to make it 8-1.

Kayla Ulrich stepped up to the plate and drove Lohden home.  Branson reached on a bunt single, then advanced on a wild pitch. Molly Lohden reached base and Sophia Weirich helped her home for the 8-4 final.
