William ‘Bill’ Voss

William “Bill” J. Voss, 84, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
William Joseph Voss was born in Leslie, MO, April 7, 1936, to Rudolph C. and Bertha F. (Bertels) Voss. He grew up and attended school at Oak Grove Country School and began working on the farm at a young age. His first job was at Powell Lumber Company in Sullivan. On July 15, 1961, Bill was married to Dorothy Ahlert in Union, Missouri, and to this marriage five children were born: Debbie, Michael, Mary, Kevin and JoAnn. Bill loved his life on the farm and was happy to be able to raise his children there.
Bill was a jack of all trades. He worked with heavy equipment and was a part of constructing the St. Louis Arch, as well as being gifted at building ponds and roads, many of which were done locally. In 1978, he lost his leg, amongst many other hardships that year. His enduring spirit was very important to his family. Bill had a huge heart and never met a stranger. In fact, he was known to everyone as Grandpa. Bill also loved the outdoors and hunting. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where he served as a choir member and altar boy. Bill loved his family very deeply and he will be lovingly missed by many.
Bill is survived by his son, Kevin Voss; his three daughters: Debbie Culbertson and her husband, Rick, Mary Gibbs and her husband, Lanny, and JoAnn Voss and her husband, Steve; his life-long friend, Joyce Bailey; his grandkids: Joe Cook and his wife, Brie, Michael Cook and his wife, Mellissa, Jenny Carbone and her husband, Tony, Tori Pinnell and her husband, Mark, JD Tippett and his wife, Rachel, CJ Voss and his wife, Sarah, Shelby Hathman and his fiancé, Mackenzie Jackson, Korey Hathman and his girlfriend, Codee & son, Kolt, Kyle Hathman and his wife, Jacklyn & sons, Emmitt & Carter, Kayla Mahuring and her husband, Brandon & children, Brayden, Trace, Mason & Brynlee, and Kathy Huff and her husband, Kory & children, Ryker & Nora; his great grandchildren: Gunner, Ryker, Nevaeh W., Nevaeh G., Luca, Bella, Brooklyn, Quinn, Vinny, Christopher and Colton; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Voss; one son, Michael Voss; one brother, Rudy Voss; and one sister, Berniece Brendel.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Father Paul Telken officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery – Sullivan.
