Lady Eagles Earn Two Ties, Fall Twice At Dig For Life Tourney

Sullivan entered North County’s Dig for Life Tournament on Sept. 12 looking for an elusive first victory.

Though they were shutout in the win column, the Lady Eagles checked off set victories after being swept in the season’s first three contests.

Against North County and Bonne Terre, Sullivan took one set each. They ended the day with losses to Windsor and Ft. Zumwalt North.

Sullivan head coach Sarah Rochleau said the team was without Morgan Clonts and Maci Nolie, who were injured.

The Lady Eagles brought in sophomore Anna Brooks and freshman Raegan Johnson to fill in.

“Johnson stepped in and provided some help in the back row with serving and playing defense. Both did a great job and we are excited for their future with the program,” Rochleau said.

Rochleau said the team competed well against some great competition.

“We split two games that I think we could have won and almost took a set from Windsor, who went on to win the tournament,” she said. “With a healthy team, I think the outcome of the tournament would have been different, but at the same time it was a good opportunity for a couple of younger girls to get some chances and experience at the varsity level.”

North County

The day began with a pool contest against the host Raiders, who squeezed out a 25-21 victory in the first set.

In the second, Sullivan flipped the score around to net a tie.

Olivia Witt’s 10 kills powered the Lady Eagles. Witt added two points and one ace.

Abby Wiegers had four kills and Cassidy Cunningham two.

Saige Carey provided 15 assists from the setter position while also notching six points.

Anna Brooks recorded six points, Raegan Johnson had six and Parker Williamson finished with three.

Bismarck

Sullivan faced off against Bismarck in the second game, falling once again 25-21 before recovering by a 25-19 final.

That forced the second tie of the day.

Witt led the Lady Eagles with nine kills. Emma Brune had seven to go along with three points and one ace.

Cunningham, Moss and Wiegers each had one kill.

Carey had 15 assists and nine points. She led the team with two aces.

Williamson had seven points.

Windsor

Sullivan played it close against the Owls, falling 26-24 in the first set. They were unable to bounce back in the second, losing 25-17.

Witt’s seven kills led the way. Brune finished with five. Moss had two and Cunningham one.

Carey finished with 10 assists.

Ft. Zumwalt North

The day ended with a straight set loss to Ft. Zumwalt North, 17-25, 15-25.
