Council Denies Request For Liquor License Setback
The Sullivan City Council has rejected a request to adjust the distance that liquor can be served from a school.
Alana Ryan of Clark Street Bakery requested in July that the city change the distance from 100 feet to 300 feet. Clark Street Bakery has added a patio and was looking to serve alcohol, but the Sullivan Alternative School is across the street.
During the Aug. 18 meeting, Mayor Dennis Watz sought out the council's feelings on the request.
Alderman Paul McCulloch stated that he had spoken with all five entities in which four of the five indicated they were against changing this city code.
Alderman Tony Wessler and Alderman Mark Dalton reported they had no information at this time on the matter while Alderman Jason Alexander reported all entities he had spoken with were against the change.
Alderman Wessler made a motion to sponsor an ordinance to change the setback requirement but the issue died from a lack of a second on the motion.
