Shetley, Brown Set To Wrestle For State Championships
Sullivan seniors Evan Shetley and Tristan Brown will try to make history on Saturday when they wrestle for the state championships in their respective weight classes at Mizzou Arena.
Shetley (182) and Brown (285) are the final wrestlers standing for the Eagles, who are seventh place in the team standings.
Shetley (44-1) faces Odessa’s Jake Evinger (41-4).
Shetley previously defeated Evinger by a 5-1 decision when the Eagles faced Odessa on February 7.
Brown (45-2) faces Monett’s Harrison Merriman (39-8).
The finals begin for all classes at 4:30 p.m.
Sullivan’s other wrestlers came up shy in their attempts.
Dillon Witt (126) reached the third round of wrestlebacks, but was defeated by Monett’s Matthew Bahl.
Ty Shetley (138) had his season ended by a 6-0 decision against Excelsior Springs’ Braxton Rickart.
Ethan Hurt (145) was pinned by Harrisonville’s Kale Weber.
Ransom Dudley (152) fell to St. Charles West’s Trent Busby by fall.
Kobie Blankenship (160) advanced to the third round of wrestlebacks before losing to Pleasant Hill’s Lane Brattin.
Trey Eplin (170) reached the second round of wrestlebacks, falling to Oak Grove’s Adrian Whitehead.
Carter Dace (195) fell by sudden victory to Cassville’s Zach Coenen.
Kyler Martin (220) got to the second round of wrestlebacks, but fell to Boonville’s Peyton Hahn.
